Kong Drive for Shelter Pets

Our 4th annual Kong drive for shelter pets has officially begun! When you purchase any size Kong toy for your pet at our hospital, we will donate another Kong toy to a shelter pet. With your support, we have been able to donate hundreds of Kong toys to Ventura County Animal Services' Kong Enrichment Program. This program is designed to enhance the daily lives of dogs in our county's Simi Valley and Camarillo shelters by allowing them to enjoy Kong toys stuffed with treats. Our annual Kong drive lasts from now until early December. Click here for more information about Ventura county's no-kill animal shelters.

September is Responsible Dog Ownership Month

f. Reception AreaIn honor of Responsible Dog Ownership Month, we are donating a portion of every preventative blood and fecal test performed in the month of September to Ventura County Animal Service's ongoing efforts to educate the public and help keep pets out of shelters. Preventative testing such as blood tests and fecal tests for intestinal parasites can uncover hidden health problems in your dog. Awareness of some of the common signs of illness is another way to help keep your pet healthy and happy. Signs your dog may be ill include:
  • bad breath or drooling
  • shaking head
  • excessive drinking or urination
  • appetite change
  • change in activity level
  • stiffness, difficulty getting up, or moving around
  • sleeping more than usual
  • coughing or sneezing
  • dry or itchy skin, sores, or lumps
  • frequent changes in bowel movements
  • dry, red, or cloudy eyes
Ventura County Animal Services (VCAS) is the largest No-Kill, Open-Admission Municipal shelter in the state of California. It takes continuous and rigorous efforts for VCAS to maintain their status. The more we can help protect and promote a healthy and happy bond between pets and their people, the more we can support our community.
